More on Moore’s: planning application now made

Following the exhibition of development proposals for the Moore’s Cycles and next door site last month and reported here: https://osterleyspringgrove.org/2016/03/05/moores-no-more/ , an application to build 34 flats over six floors has now been submitted to Hounslow Council by Network Housing Group.

Should it be functioning, there is a good range of documents to be found on the council’s planning website via http://www.hounslow.gov.uk under case number 00981/AI/P1. A few of these can also be accessed by clicking on the links below:

Letters seeking comment have so far been sent to 505 neighbouring addresses and comments are sought by 20 April 2016.

The St Johns Residents Association has advised that this features on the agenda for its meeting on Monday 11 April 2016  at St Johns Centre, 80 St Johns Road, Isleworth, Middlesex, TW7 6RU from 8.00 pm.

As a member of Hounslow Council’s planning committee, I am happy to receive residents’ responses but do not usually comment on these matters prior to a formal decision being made should they, at some point, appear on a future meeting agenda.

Odeon Parade: as you were

A number of residents recently made contact about a planning application made to remodel the external elevations of the remnant of the former Odeon cinema at 480 London Road, Isleworth.

Planning officers refused the application to alter this locally listed building in the Spring Grove Conservation Area and the reasons for doing so are contained in this report.

Should it be functioning, all documents for this application (including a decent Heritage Statement) can be found on the council’s planning website via http://www.hounslow.gov.uk with case number P/2016/0620.

H28 bus to the West Mid – safe for now

Transport for London says it has “deferred making a decision on the proposed changes to route H28” and “will have further discussions with the London Borough of Hounslow about these proposed changes.”

TfL reports the outcome of last year’s consultation here:  https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/e8-110-h28 .

The consultation was meant to be about improving routes to West Middlesex University Hospital following the government’s NHS cuts at Ealing Hospital last year. However, a number of folk suspect that it may have also been another austerity cuts exercise, this time with local public transport as the victim.

One of the TfL proposals was to reroute the E8 towards the hospital and to take the H28 out of Wood Lane, Amhurst Gardens and Twickenham Road. This would mean removing bus access to the West Mid from Spring Grove, Osterley and North Isleworth as well as other neighbourhoods in the borough .

Results of the consultation showed a very good response on the H28 from local folk and can be found on pages 5, 31-38 and 81-82 (notes from the meeting I arranged) here. They included,

  • The route needs to go to WMUH – 82 responses
  • Wood Lane needs to be served by a bus route – 68 responses
  • Generally opposed – 58 responses
  • This route is used by a number of elderly/vulnerable people who rely on it to do their weekly shop/get out and about – 56 responses
  • Will lose direct, cheap link to Tesco – 43 responses
  • H91 is not an alternative route for Wood Lane/Northumberland Estate – 29 responses
  • Northumberland Estate is not served by any other bus route and will result in a long uphill walk/walk to get other buses – 18 responses
  • Proposal will adversely affect Wood Lane residents taking children to local schools – 13 responses
  • Will increase the cost and time of my journey – 13 responses

The current route of H28 is safe, for now but this is probably because there is an election for a new Mayor for London next month and the current do nothing Mayor Johnson would not have wanted this cut in the spotlight.

I have spoken to Hounslow Council’s head of transport and when TfL does have these “further discussions”, I shall ensure that residents are involved and continue to do my best to represent.

South Western Rail Franchise: Good meeting, get your responses in, pronto

Attendance and participation at last night’s meeting where we learnt more about the way our local train service works and how important it is to different users was a pleasure to be a part of.

Local resident, Michael Peacock, at very short notice was put on the spot to present but was asked to because of his in depth knowledge of the workings of our local railway and its context within the national network.

Many participants shared their views and also offered a range of proposals for the Department of Transport’s stakeholder consultation for the South Western Rail Franchise.  Notes from the meeting can be found here and should  be useful when preparing a response to the DfT before the 9 February 2016 deadline.

A copy of the consultation document can be found here and ways of responding to it here.

You wait for one consultation then two turn up at the same time.

Last week, the Department of Transport and Transport for London published another document, A new approach to rail passenger services in London and the South East, this describes a longer than recent ambition to incorporate suburban rail services (including ours) into the London Overground network.  This is also worth responding to (in a similar way to the SWRF) and can be downloaded from here, the closing date for this one is 18 March 2016.

Happy to recieve copies of your responses.

H28 Bus Route Changes: Meeting on Wednesday 9 December at 11.30 am

Transport for London is consulting on proposals to stop running the H28 in parts of Osterley and Isleworth.  It would mean no direct bus from these neighbourhoods to West Middlesex Hospital and other parts of the town.

Proposed new route for the H28 which will see the removal of a service to West Middlesex Hospital operating since 1995

TfL are running their consultation until 18 December 2015 and have delivered this consultation document to households in the area, they are also running an online survey which can be accessed here.

To offer residents an opportunity to find out more and complete their responses to this consultation, I have arranged a meeting from 11.30 am to 1.00 pm on Wednesday 9 December 2015, at space kindly provided by Thistleworth Tennis Club, 129A Ridgeway Road North, Isleworth, Middlesex, TW7 5LX.

Currently, the H28 stops very nearby.

TfL staff will be there to answer questions and carry paper copies of the survey for residents to complete.

Tea and coffee will be available too, courtesy of Thistleworth.

All are welcome.
