Wood Lane 2: more details but communications require a revamp

It’s no mean feat fixing Hounslow’s roads, pavements, street lights and signs; an ambitious long term project welcomed and complimented by most citizens. Hounslow Highways is good at engineering but telling people about the forthcoming Wood Lane works may suggest, the way information has been shared and the opportunities to make enquiries, is weak in comparison.

Wood Lane resurfacing, north to the Great West Road, starts here on 12.10.2015

Both Wednesday and Friday last week, residents in the area received inaccurate and incomplete information in two separate letters about the start of planned road resurfacing, see here and here.

With 103 roads in this (the borough’s biggest) ward, it shouldn’t be up to a councillor to seek and share bread and butter stuff but by late Friday, a couple of calls and a few emails have so far yielded the following: Continue reading

Wood Lane: long awaited resurfacing due to start next month

This one has been on the stocks for a long time and it took some explaining to Hounslow Highways that this important route off the Great West Road needs more attention.   Together with Ruth Cadbury MP and on behalf of residents and other users, a new road surface has been pursued for the past year and it is about to happen.

White Lodge and Conquest: committee date for free school planning application

The application for a free school on the sports grounds sites is now expected to be heard at Hounslow Council’s 1 October 2015 Planning Committee (7.30 pm in Lampton Conference Suite, no doubt).

The planning application for a free school will be considered on 1 October 2015

The planning application for a free school will be considered on 1 October 2015

Quite a short window for residents and planners to comment and consider feedback on the latest revised plans submitted late August (see planning notice here and documents here or here) and for a comprehensive report to be published.

As reported a couple of days ago, there will be an exhibition on the latest planning application revisions at the Osterley Park Hotel this Tuesday 8 September 2015 from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm.

Reading my invitation from Nishkam Trust’s public relations contractor, I was concerned to learn of suggestion that factually incorrect rumours have been circulating locally and sought explanation.  A copy of the e mail exchange and explanation can be found here.  I have forwarded this to Hounslow’s planners for information and comment.

White Lodge and Conquest Clubs sites: another opportunity to see the free school proposal

Regular readers will recall how the former and defeated Conservative MP kept quiet about what she knew about the proposals to build a school on the sports grounds between Wood Lane and Syon Lane in Osterley and Spring Grove Ward.  Fortuately her cover was blown when the new owners trespassed onto public land to build a fence, see previous article here.

After the cat was let out of the bag and through pressure via this website and residents, the school’s promoters set up a hurried exhibition towards the end of May, prior to submitting a planning application.  A revised planning application was submitted on 25 August 2015 and comments on this are now being sought, see the notification here.

Now more openly supported by a public relations company, Nishkam Free School has been inviting Hounslow councillors and residents to another brief event at the Osterley Hotel on Tuesday 8 September 2015, a copy of my invitation can be seen here.

More information on the free school proposals can be found here and the website set up by residents without costly PR, Keep Osterley Green, can be found here.

Planning appeal on former telephone building behind Spencer Road turned down

A long running planning abuse case where a redundant telephone repeater station, with limited access, was turned into an illegal dwelling has ended with a win for long troubled residents and Hounslow’s planning enforcement.

The council served notice on the building owner mid October 2013 to stop the use of the building as a self contained residential unit; remove all kitchen and bathroom facilities, and installed gas piping and connections; remove all resultant debris (see report to Planning Enforcement Sub-Committee of 3.10.2013 here).
