Macfarlane Lane Sports Ground: New school proposal presentation on 23.2.2017

A presentation from the architects and promoters of a new free school on the council owned and current Grasshoppers site off Syon Lane, Isleworth will be made at Hounslow Council’s Planning Development Presentation meeting on Thursday 23 February 2017 starting 7.30 pm in the Council Chamber at Hounslow Civic Centre, Lampton Road, Hounslow, Middlesex, TW3 4DN.

Planning presentation meetings are where promoters of developments show their ideas to members of the council planning committee prior to the submission of a formal planning application.

So far, there is just one item on the agenda, a proposal for the “demolition of existing club house and construction of a two to four storey, 1,150 pupil secondary school, including ancillary access, parking, sports pitches and multi use games area” for the as yet to be established, mixed and non religious Bolder Academy.  The proposed school was one of the items presented and discussed at the OWGRA meeting on 6 December 2016.

Residents are welcome to attend the meeting as observers but are not allowed to speak although I would welcome any appropriate questions to convey during the proceedings.

Dudley House 8: A new planning application

Following the Hounslow Council Planning Committee’s refusal of STS Group Investments’ bid to convert and extend Dudley House on 12 January 2017, a new application has been submitted and was validated on 6 February 2017.

Planning Committee knocked back the previous application (reference P/2016/3928) because of its inappropriate design for a conservation area and lack of amenity space.

The new proposal (reference P/2017/0496) still provides 17 units and as far as can be ascertained, the differences since the previous application are:

  • an increase to the amount of communal amenity space from 378 sqm to 408 sqm
  • a change to the design of the roof extension
  • realigned windows to the roof extension
  • a new glass balustrade proposed to the west elevation
  • minor internal alterations to the flats’ layouts.

Syon Gate Garage Site Meeting: Report

It became a standing room only event at St Francis of Assisi Church Hall on Isleworth’s Great West Road, the last Monday night in January.

Hounslow Council planning experts, Robert Coomber and Melek Egren were present to help clarify the application and suggest more confidence in the process that may, perhaps, have been brought in hall prior to the start of the meeting.

The developer has been asked if they would attend to present, Hounslow Council planning officers will be present to answer residents’ questions and other ward councillors also invited.

There is now a new planning application for the temporary car park for Sky on the often empty site of the former Shell petrol station, once known as Syon Gate Garage, across from the other one and Gillette bang opposite Homebase.

Promoted as Gillette South, the site owners, via agents DP9, have applied for an up to 14 level structure to incorporate basement self storage, offices, a mix of 102 flats with 323 habitable rooms (18 one bed, 62 two bed, 10 three bed, 12 unknown) and 53 car parking spaces (42 residential, 2 visitor, 9 commercial).

Plans are also available for inspection at Osterley Library, St Mary’s Crescent.

A copy of the notice sent to neighbours by Hounslow Council can be found here and comments on the application will be received until close to when the application is considered at the Planning Committee some time in Spring 2017.

As a member of the council’s planning committee, I am not able to pre judge this application until it is reported but am keen that residents are able to access details and have questions answered while it progresses.

Three local applications at 12 January 2017 Planning Committee

On the books for a few months, three Osterley & Spring Grove Ward planning applications will be considered at next week’s planning committee being held in the Lampton Park Conference Centre, Civic Centre, Lampton Road, Hounslow starting at 7.30 pm.

First up will be the National Trust scheme to upgrade and introduce further cycle tracks within Osterley Park.

Next on the agenda is Coomb House, 7 St Johns Road, an office block which already has unexpired permission to convert into a 59 room hotel but this application is for an 89 room version.

Lastly, the former Dudley House Nursing Home on The Grove, the subject of numerous ambitions these past two years but now up for conversion and a roof extension to create 17 flats.
