Former Shell Syon Gate Garage plot: High

Back in 2008, permission was gained by the owners of this former Shell petrol station and Contitrades House site opposite Homebase on Syon Lane, Isleworth for a self storage facility but that didn’t happened.

A couple of different proposals had been mooted by owners Precis since, both involving a mix of self storage and mainly tall residential but did not progress.

A new scheme is about to be revealed to residents and councillors before a planning application is submitted to Hounslow Council, possibly by the end of this year.

To allow residents to comment, an exhibition is taking place at St Francis of Assisi Church Hall, 865 Great West Road, Isleworth, TW7 5PD, over two days on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 October 2016 between 4.00 pm and 8.00 pm. The developer’s architects and planning advisors will be present to explain the proposals.

A copy of the invitation sent last week can be found here.

Also, on Thursday 20 October at 8.10 pm (not 7.30 pm as billed) at Hounslow Civic Centre, members of the council’s Planning Committee will also have the opportunity to do the same during at a Planning Development Presentation. This is a monthly event where development proposals ideas are brought to councillors for comments prior to full applications being made. Members of the public are welcome to attend but do not have speaking rights.

The site owner’s planning consultants have provided this summary briefing to councillors.

A planning application by Sky, for temporary car parking on this site has been submitted to Hounslow Council and is reported elsewhere on this blog; it has no immediate bearing on this matter.

Not in Osterley & Spring Grove Ward, the Duke of Northumberland’s schemes for Park Road Allotments and replacement will also be given an outing at the 20 October Planning Development Presentation.

Freeloaders to be nabbed

Hounslow Council’s planners advise, “agents’ boards will be a breach of the advertisement regulations if not placed on the property to which they relate.  If they are on the highway, then the highway authority can remove them and it is normally the highway authority that would enforce in such cases.”

Offending Thorgills, Dexters, Chase Buchanan and Anderson Knight boards at Osterley

First raised with Hounslow Council’s busy Planning Enforcement Team early June 2016, I later found out that the common but prohibited practice of estate agents placing advertising on the Great West Road, Osterley Station subway railings was actually a matter for Transport for London.

Following correspondence, heard from TfL yesterday that estate agents Thorgills, Dexters, Chase Buchanan and Anderson Knight will be written to and given seven days notice to remove these boards. Should they fail to comply, TfL will do it and seek to recover any expenses incurred.  A copy of TfL’s communication can be found here.

Unless on the A4, A30 or A406 which are Transport for London’s (report via tfl.gov.uk/contact), our highway authority is Hounslow Highways to whom similar breaches can be reported by visiting http://www.hounslowhighways.org

It’s not just flytips that rankle.

Happy to follow up if problems not resolved.

Wyke Green: Traveller event

Information about travellers pitching up on Wyke Green prompted a reccy on Thursday 9.6.2016. Toured the area by a neighbour, around the green where they had first located then across to Wyevale but advice from their car wash crew was that the vans had cleared off the day before.

Later that morning Hounslow Council’s parks team advised of the actions taken to reclaim Wyke Green including by way of this notice of direction.

Residents near Wyke Green raised how easy it had become to access it due to a missing lockable post by Jersey Road; glad to say that by the afternoon the space was more secure with a replacement.  Carillion were also asked to remove a few black sacks, left relatively tidily.

Coincidentally the next day, Councillors, in our weekly update bulletin Members Matters, received a briefing on Travellers which can be found here.

The advice included details of who to contact if you become aware of travellers camping in the borough.

Police: call the police non-emergency number 101

Parks: Carillion, the council’s parks contractor who’ll make the initial assessment, telephone 0845 456 2853 or email Hounslow.info@carillion.services.co.uk

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor were there for the grilled meat earlier on today but I had the pleasure of tea and cake later.

Will continue to pursue a review of the Osterley Station controlled parking zone to make it easier for players to participate; those woods can be heavy to carry.  Also supporting the club with its efforts to capture funds to upgrade basic facilities of the council owned clubhouse.

Tesco on Spring Grove Road: hidden gold found

In Isleworth you don’t have to look far to be reminded of its rich social, commercial and industrial history. Lots gone, some in your face, sometimes you need to look, other times told or better still shown. Occasionally something from the town’s past is revealed and stirs interest, from oot of the blue.

1 Clifton Road soon to be Tesco Express, Spring Grove Road

Following a planning permission in April 2014, an off sales license and some initial works a year later, it was thought that Tesco had abandoned its plans to open at 1 Clifton Road. In April 2016 it was back on again and their  contractor has since been moving apace.

Arnold & Sons Limited – Master Shop Fitters at 1 Clifton Road from way back

Saturday morning came a Tweet from @HaggerDarren whose pictures from 1 Clifton Road were accompanied with the comment, “The past revealed in Clifton Rd, can this be saved?” Later that day I took a look (and pictures) myself.  Also looking was another resident, DJ, who a few months previously explained why Isleworth, with all its current and planned developments, should look at ways to rediscover its soul. More on that another time.

The next day, Tesco boss, Dave Lewis was sent a line to explain and show why the firm might take another look at its current shop front design and asked whether what was discovered could be incorporated.  Their development project manager was e  m ailed to suggest that as Tesco considers Spring Grove as an upmarket neighbourhood, it would be very good to reflect on how the finished store will look and to enhance the  conservation area here.  An e mail response from Tesco earlier today is so far not negative.

Watch that space.
