Great interest in London Road: find out at Thursday’s Isleworth and Brentford Area Forum

Was very pleased to arrange and run a meeting of forty residents of Osterley and Spring Grove Ward and other folk with an interest in London Road last Wednesday 30.9.2015.  The setting was the splendid Music Room of Spring Grove House made available courtesy of West Thames College.

There were five discussion groups exploring a number of issues ripe for resolution and worthy of further work, not least Isleworth Station.  A summary of the discussions can be found here and its content will start to contribute to and  inform further work of the London Road Interest Group, more about this below.

IBAF at Spring Grove House – Thursday 8 October 2015 at 7.30 pm

The London Road Improvement Group is a feature of the Isleworth and Brentford Area Forum Action Plan, a range of projects and ideas championed by each of the 12 councillors from the four wards making up the IBAF; a copy of the action plan can be seen here.

Progress on the action plan will be the only item on the IBAF agenda which can be seen here http://democraticservices.hounslow.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=576&MId=9200&Ver=4 .

All readers are welcome to attend, please say hello if you do.

Should you be unable to attend and wish to comment on any aspect of the London Road Interest Group, please write to tony.louki@hounslow.gov.uk.

Improve London Road and Isleworth Station meeting: Wednesday 30 September 2015

Stn

Wednesday 30 September 2015

The Music Room, Spring Grove House, West Thames College

London Road, Isleworth, Middlesex, TW7 4HS

Doors open 7.15 pm, starts 7.30 pm, finishes by 9.00 pm

Many of us live by and use the facilities of London Road from Brentford to Hounslow, particularly the part in Spring Grove and Isleworth. It has seen better days and plenty of people want this decline reversed.

A number of residents and businesses have already agreed to come along on Wednesday in order to focus on ideas and solutions and to start working on a plan.

The aim is to have a working meeting so that people can quietly discuss issues and potential opportunities for London Road, St Johns Road and the station then feedback on ways forward.

It’ll be about finding out, ideas, solutions and avoidance of wasting time bashing the council, train companies or particular businesses.

Groups will focus on status, knowledge gaps and ambition for at least these aspects:

  • Isleworth Station (building, bridges, car park, access) and other public transport
  • Retail (the offer, fabric of premises, branding, business support)
  • Physical environment of London Road (road, pavements, street furniture, signs, trees)
  • Cleanliness, tidiness and community safety
  • Links to attractions and community facilities (Osterley Park, Indian Gymkhana, Brent Lea Recreation Ground, Syon Park, Thornbury Park, West Thames College, Brentford, the river).
  • Marketing initiatives, seasonal events, community participation.

I hope you may come but if not please drop me a line with any comments to tony.louki@hounslow.gov.uk.  Will try to keep you informed otherwise and via www.osterleyspringgrove.org

Wood Lane 2: more details but communications require a revamp

It’s no mean feat fixing Hounslow’s roads, pavements, street lights and signs; an ambitious long term project welcomed and complimented by most citizens. Hounslow Highways is good at engineering but telling people about the forthcoming Wood Lane works may suggest, the way information has been shared and the opportunities to make enquiries, is weak in comparison.

Wood Lane road resurfacing starts here on 12.10.2015, north to the Great West Road

Wood Lane resurfacing, north to the Great West Road, starts here on 12.10.2015

Both Wednesday and Friday last week, residents in the area received inaccurate and incomplete information in two separate letters about the start of planned road resurfacing, see here and here.

With 103 roads in this (the borough’s biggest) ward, it shouldn’t be up to a councillor to seek and share bread and butter stuff but by late Friday, a couple of calls and a few emails have so far yielded the following: Continue reading
