One of the numerous sports clubs in Osterley & Spring Grove Ward, Osterley Bowls Club on St Marys Crescent celebrated 80 years at St Marys Crescent today.
Non stop matches, six rinks on the go all day at the Osterley Bowls Club 80th birthday event
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor were there for the grilled meat earlier on today but I had the pleasure of tea and cake later.
They knew we were coming so they baked a cake
Early participants in the Osterley Sports Network, Osterley Bowls Club always welcomes new members and more information on how to take part can be found here . All are welcome to have a try. Their website also has photos from today’s happy event.
Game still on at Osterley Bowls Club since 1936
Will continue to pursue a review of the Osterley Station controlled parking zone to make it easier for players to participate; those woods can be heavy to carry. Also supporting the club with its efforts to capture funds to upgrade basic facilities of the council owned clubhouse.

Transport for London says it has “deferred making a decision on the proposed changes to route H28” and “will have further discussions with the London Borough of Hounslow about these proposed changes.”
H28s on Wood Lane Isleworth
TfL reports the outcome of last year’s consultation here: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/e8-110-h28 .
The consultation was meant to be about improving routes to West Middlesex University Hospital following the government’s NHS cuts at Ealing Hospital last year. However, a number of folk suspect that it may have also been another austerity cuts exercise, this time with local public transport as the victim.
One of the TfL proposals was to reroute the E8 towards the hospital and to take the H28 out of Wood Lane, Amhurst Gardens and Twickenham Road. This would mean removing bus access to the West Mid from Spring Grove, Osterley and North Isleworth as well as other neighbourhoods in the borough .
Results of the consultation showed a very good response on the H28 from local folk and can be found on pages 5, 31-38 and 81-82 (notes from the meeting I arranged) here. They included,
- The route needs to go to WMUH – 82 responses
- Wood Lane needs to be served by a bus route – 68 responses
- Generally opposed – 58 responses
- This route is used by a number of elderly/vulnerable people who rely on it to do their weekly shop/get out and about – 56 responses
- Will lose direct, cheap link to Tesco – 43 responses
- H91 is not an alternative route for Wood Lane/Northumberland Estate – 29 responses
- Northumberland Estate is not served by any other bus route and will result in a long uphill walk/walk to get other buses – 18 responses
- Proposal will adversely affect Wood Lane residents taking children to local schools – 13 responses
- Will increase the cost and time of my journey – 13 responses
The current route of H28 is safe, for now but this is probably because there is an election for a new Mayor for London next month and the current do nothing Mayor Johnson would not have wanted this cut in the spotlight.

I have spoken to Hounslow Council’s head of transport and when TfL does have these “further discussions”, I shall ensure that residents are involved and continue to do my best to represent.

There was a decent turnout from all parts of Osterley & Spring Grove Ward at last Wednesday’s (9.12.2015) meeting with Transport for London, kindly hosted by Thistleworth Tennis Club.
Talking local transport at Thistleworth
Some thirty folk came to the lunchtime event offering many good reasons why the H28 should remain pretty much intact, maintaining the link between West Middlesex Hospital and other links and locations with Osterley and North Isleworth. There was also fair comment on the absurdity of running a double decked E8 bus down Amhurst Gardens.
Notes from the meeting can be found here and a highlighted comments were: Continue reading →

To be held in the Lampton Park Conference Centre, Civic Centre, Lampton Road, Hounslow, Middlesex, TW3 4DN at 7.30 pm – a meeting to be held in public but not a public meeting.
The ambition of the Nishkam Free School and its backers to locate on this sports ground may be settled by the 15 members of Hounslow’s Planning Committee later this week.
This follows what appears to have been a few years of assurances, interventions, submissions, challenges and generally civilized discussion in the neighbourhoods of Osterley and North Isleworth and beyond. Even Eric Pickles and the Earl of Jersey’s firm got in on the action.
Whatever the outcome, it has always been about making residents aware of what’s happening and improving the flow of dialogue and documents locally in Osterley & Spring Grove Ward. Continue reading →

Transport for London is consulting on proposals to stop running the H28 in parts of Osterley and Isleworth. It would mean no direct bus from these neighbourhoods to West Middlesex Hospital and other parts of the town.
Proposed new route for the H28 which will see the removal (in red) of a service to West Middlesex Hospital operating since 1995 (this map incorrectly shows current route E8)
TfL are running their consultation until 18 December 2015 and have delivered this consultation document to households in the area, they are also running an online survey which can be accessed here.
To offer residents an opportunity to find out more and complete their responses to this consultation, I have arranged a meeting from 11.30 am to 1.00 pm on Wednesday 9 December 2015, at space kindly provided by Thistleworth Tennis Club, 129A Ridgeway Road North, Isleworth, Middlesex, TW7 5LX.
Currently, the H28 stops very nearby.
TfL staff will be there to answer questions and carry paper copies of the survey for residents to complete.
Tea and coffee will be available too, courtesy of Thistleworth.
All are welcome.
