Wood Lane 2: more details but communications require a revamp

It’s no mean feat fixing Hounslow’s roads, pavements, street lights and signs; an ambitious long term project welcomed and complimented by most citizens. Hounslow Highways is good at engineering but telling people about the forthcoming Wood Lane works may suggest, the way information has been shared and the opportunities to make enquiries, is weak in comparison.

Wood Lane road resurfacing starts here on 12.10.2015, north to the Great West Road

Wood Lane resurfacing, north to the Great West Road, starts here on 12.10.2015

Both Wednesday and Friday last week, residents in the area received inaccurate and incomplete information in two separate letters about the start of planned road resurfacing, see here and here.

With 103 roads in this (the borough’s biggest) ward, it shouldn’t be up to a councillor to seek and share bread and butter stuff but by late Friday, a couple of calls and a few emails have so far yielded the following: Continue reading

More than three years since last meeting residents, the owners of Nishkam free school are exhibiting plans for the Conquest and White Lodge Clubs site.

The flyer says:

After an extensive site search, Nishkam School, supported by the Education Funding Agency, is proposing a new ‘all through’ school (pupils aged 4 to 19) on vacant land off Syon Lane, previously known as Conquest Club.

A planning application will shortly be made to the Council and we are seeking the views of the local community on the proposal.

Conquest and White Lodge Clubs: McLeod lets the cat out of the bag

Bigger than you thought, little people, prepare yourselves.

On Tuesday 28.4.2015, a couple of hours after residents met at the gates of the White Lodge Club, Syon Lane for a photo to mark their seeing off of the Education Funding Agency’s big grey fence, Mary McLeod’s bag carrier, former councillor Barbara Reid was busy arranging a meeting of not nearly enough concerned locals for last night at the Wycombe House Club, Jersey Road and elsewhere..

At long last, McLeod felt able to reveal a proposal for the clubs site, below.

The Conquest Club/Nishkam Academy Proposal

Conquest Club to Nishkam Academy: no planning application or permission granted – but site being bought with your money

141129 Conquest Club signHounslow’s Labour council continues to invest local money in extending its primary schools to ease the demand for places for this age group.  David Cameron turned up unannounced at the Green School recently to continue to punt his government’s money wasting free school dogma which means that Hounslow’s (councillors continue to be told) 3 new secondary schools needed by 2018 can only be developed by anyone but the local authority.

Despite this advancing, unproved and often controversial tax funded free market in education, Hounslow Council still has a duty to provide all children with a school place and, to attempt a fist at coordination, meets with other providers via a local Academy and Free School Reference Group. Half a year a Councillor – meeting at West Thames College Thursday 13 November 2014

Some 40 locals turned up at West Thames College to see a presentation on Hounslow Highways and exchange with that organisation’s man in charge, Mr Rob Gillespie. The evening was arranged to also offer Osterley & Spring Grove residents an opportunity to raise or discuss issues with other local people and their ward councillor six months after the borough elections.

The guest speaker was chosen as his teams have been around during the last year across most of the ward renewing pavements, replacing streetlights and resurfacing roads. Another reason was because a fair amount of casework raised by residents includes tree, verge, flytipping and street issues. Continue reading
