Three local applications at 12 January 2017 Planning Committee

On the books for a few months, three Osterley & Spring Grove Ward planning applications will be considered at next week’s planning committee being held in the Lampton Park Conference Centre, Civic Centre, Lampton Road, Hounslow starting at 7.30 pm.

Coomb House, 7 St Johns Road, Isleworth

First up will be the National Trust scheme to upgrade and introduce further cycle tracks within Osterley Park.

Next on the agenda is Coomb House, 7 St Johns Road, an office block which already has unexpired permission to convert into a 59 room hotel but this application is for an 89 room version.

Lastly, the former Dudley House Nursing Home on The Grove, the subject of numerous ambitions these past two years but now up for conversion and a roof extension to create 17 flats.

11 November 2016: Borough Road, Isleworth

While guns were heard firing in the distance elsewhere, the usual Armistice Day gathering at Borough Road, Isleworth this morning.

Memorial to staff and students of Borough Road College lost to wars, with added Green School students

Residents, pupils from Isleworth & Syon, Green and Ashton House Schools together with the Vicar from St Mary’s and Priest from St Vincents gathered and took part in short and simple reflection and the two minutes silence at this annual event.

Birds were singing too this beautiful morning in Osterley & Spring Grove Ward.

Osterley Bowls Club: 80 years young

One of the numerous sports clubs in Osterley & Spring Grove Ward, Osterley Bowls Club on St Marys Crescent celebrated 80 years at St Marys Crescent today.

Non stop matches, six rinks on the go all day at the Osterley Bowls Club 80th birthday event

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor were there for the grilled meat earlier on today but I had the pleasure of tea and cake later.

They knew we were coming so they baked a cake

Early participants in the Osterley Sports Network, Osterley Bowls Club always welcomes new members and more information on how to take part can be found here . All are welcome to have a try. Their website also has photos from today’s happy event.

Will continue to pursue a review of the Osterley Station controlled parking zone to make it easier for players to participate; those woods can be heavy to carry. Also supporting the club with its efforts to capture funds to upgrade basic facilities of the council owned clubhouse.

Greenwood Osterley Archers: staying put and supported

Under varied names but in the borough since the 1950s, Greenwood Osterley Archers have been in Isleworth since 1973. First at the Conquest Club and since 2002 subletting space from Grasshoppers RFC at Macfarlane Lane, the former United Biscuits sports ground owned by Hounslow Council since 1992.

There was a council cabinet decision in March 2016 to sell the UB sports ground, part to the Education Funding Agency for another free school and the rest to BSkyB raising £3.7m. In addition to that amount, cabinet also agreed to borrow a further £6m to build and relocate Grasshoppers RFC to a brand new facility on the northern part of the Conquest Club, next to the proposed Nishkam Free School.

Concerned that these changes would render it homeless, I accepted an invitation to the archery club at one of its Saturday morning shoots to discuss securing is medium and long term future and later arranged a meeting with the leader of the council, Councillor Steve Curran.

We met at the Indian Gymkhana last night to discuss a way forward and Steve Curran confirmed that Grasshoppers RFC should allow the GOA should stay at Macfarlane Lane until their move. It was also agreed that the council would work to find an alternative permanent site for the archers within the borough and this would include examining how GOA could be incorporated within the proposed new free school and BSkyB development.

Wardabout on Northumberland Estate with Hounslow Highways – Tuesday 31 May 2016 at 11.00 am to 12.00 pm

The latest in our neighbourhoods mooches took place today on the Northumberland Estate in the rain and with added splash. We were not deterred, the silver lining was the noting of quite a few pondings and blocked gulleys.

Residents welcomed this Hounslow Highways initiative and their local knowledge helped put issues into historic perspective. Everyone said they loved the new trees planted in most roads on the Northumberland over the winter and today they saw them getting a good water.
